Cross forest Exchange 2003->2010 Migration move request for roll back.

$

Help.

I cannot move mailboxes back from a cross forest Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2003 domain in a different forest.

My migration process consists of:-

1. Prepare moverequest to prepare the new domain for the contact

2. Move-mailboxrequest  from the old forest to the new forest

Is it possible to rollback or undo the mailbox move from Exchange 2010 from a seperate org/forest to Exchange 2003 possible?

I've searched all over but cannot find anything.

I've tried for hours with powershell and really don't want to revert to lengthy backups/restores just for a cross forest migration just to upgrade.

Any suggestions?

Exchange 2003 to 2010

I want to migrate from a Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 to a Windows 2012 Server with Exchange 2010.  My question is when installing Exchange 2010 on the Windows 2012 server does the Exchange server need to be part of the existing Exchange environment or installed as a stand alone Exchange server?

Exchange 2007 New Install Error - Read only MultiValuedProperty does not support this operation

Existing Server/Exchange 2003 environment. New 2003 R2 x64 server fully patched and updated with no other apps installed attempting to install Exchange 2007 SP2.

Initially I was getting the error "Could not find the default Administrative Group ‘Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)’". This I fixed by completely uninstalling per this Microsoft article, this Microsoft FixIt article and this recommended blog post, ending withsetup.com /preparead. I'm making progress, because now I'm getting a new error attempting the install. Specifically, Hub Transport installation fails with "Read only MultiValuedProperty does not support this operation."

Executing setup.com /prepareSchema fails. I've set the msExchVer attribute for CN=Offline Address Lists to 4535486012416 and gotten no change, the install still fails. This Googled page exactly describes my problem, and all anyone could say was to add this version number. It doesn't work. Pretty much none of the threads I've read have a resolution beyond this. I'm stumped, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Migrate from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010

We currently have Exchange 2007 SP2 running on Windows Server 2003 x64. We are planning on upgrading to Exchange 2010 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2. I have verified that our new server meets all Exchange 2010 requirements and our domain function level is Windows Server 2008.
First I am going to install the client access role on the new server. We do have users that connect via Outlook Web Access so I need to configure the internet facing domain name. My question is do I put in our current internet facing domain name in here or do I create a new one?

Public folders not replicating from 2003 to 2010

I am doing a migration from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 for a customer. The Exchange portion of the migration follows standard exchange migration procedures. So far everything is going as planned except Public Folder replication. They seem to be 'stuck'. I have tried issuing the commands from both servers with no effect.

From the 2003 server I have done the "Move all replicas" method from ESM. In ESM I can still see the Public Folder Instances is populated which tells me they have not move yet. Replication Status shows all folders as having 2 replicas and their status is "In Sync". There are no error in the event log though I just turned up diagnostic logging on all the Public folder options just now so we will see if there are any more today. I checked the replication schedule yesterday and found the Replication Limits were empty. I set the defaults but have seen no change since.

On the 2010 server it as if the Public folders from the  2003 server do not exist. They are not listed in the public folder management (only the default 2 folders). I used the AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 & MoveAllReplicas.ps1 scripts and Update-PublicFolderHierarchy command from the 2010 server yet still when I run Get-PublicFolder or Get-PublicFolderStatistics the only folders reported on are the two defaults and system folders.

I thought if replication is going to work I would do it manually. So I restored the public folders from backup to a PST and using Outlook (as a user whose mailbox has been moved to the new server) I copied them all to the new server. The Exch2010 server can see and manage them but when I try to mail enable them and assign the address they had before, it complains that the address is in use.

Some other details:
The Exchange 2010 server was at RTM when I started the replication. I have since updated to SP3 and all other server updates.
Outlook clients whose mailbox is still on the 2003 server can see the folders but none of the content. The get a “Cannot access the specified location” error
Firewall is off for Domain networks
I am not seeing any other problems of communication between the servers in other areas of the replication (AD, file shares, etc)

Exchange 2010 - Decommissioning Exchange 2007 Coexistence and Removal of Public Folders

We are about to decommission exchange 2007, currently in coexistence with Exchange 2010.

We do not want to use ANY public folders in exchange 2010 going forward. Will do this after decom of 2007:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(v=exchg.141).aspx

I see this in the outlook connection status in outlook:

I have changed all Exchange 2010 mailbox databases to use a temporary 2010 public folders db named "public1" so that it is not communicating with the 2007 mailbox virtual server. However, the exact same connection status appears after I changed the 2010 mailbox DBs to use a 2010 public folder db instead of the old 2007.

Question is, is it safe to decom the 2007 environment now? Is it normal to still have a connection to 2007  in "connection status" in outlook when the users mailbox is on a 2010 mailbox db? Is this connection related to public folders or something else that needs modified before decom?

Thanks,

Josh

Mailbox move request error

Hi,

We have Exchange 2010 SP3 and Exchange 2013 CU2 installed in our infrastructure. I did the migration of users from Exchange 2010 to 2013 and everything went fine but now i am having issues with 2 user's mailbox while migrating them to Exchange 2013 from 2010. These are two different users reside on two different database at Exchange 2010.

1. Move request failed at 10% with an error message of "Transient Failure". I am moving the users mailbox from Exchange management shell of 2013.

2. Move request failed at 95% with an error message of "Poisoned Mailbox". I am moving the users mailbox from Exchange management shell.

When i tried to move them from EAC, move request failed with the error message that the said user is already in destination database (Destination database is Exchange 2013 db).

I need quick resolution for these issues so that we i can proceed with my project closure. Thanks.

Riaz....

Hi there,

This is about sbs 2011 running exch2010. Recently there was trojan detected and cleaned from data partition but after reboot getting event Id 1008 MSExchangeRPC Unable to load DLL 'dsaccessperf.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) erro and most of the exchange services are crashing. I think that trojan took away 'dsaccessperf.dll'.

Am I thinking right? and what is the location of this file if it is other than \bin\ folder of exchange. Is it OK to restore it from older backup or can be easily downloaded from MS portal?

Thanks in advance.

Error code 1632 when trying to install management tools

Getting this rather dated error message when trying to install the Exchange 2007 SP3 admin tools on a Windows 7 x64 Professional SP1 client PC.

"Installing product C:\temp\exchangeserver.msi failed. The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on the drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder. Error code is 1632."

I've done all the obvious stuff, the group everyone has full control of pretty much everything on the computer at this point, tried copying the files locally, tried running it from a UNC path, no luck.  Definitely am an administrator on the computer.

The only other software on it at this point is IE11 and Windows updates.

Tried it from the UI, tried it from the command line, i.e. setup /r:mt and I get the same error code.  Definitely is enough disk space.  The version I'm installing definitely is the x64 SP3 version.

Any ideas?

Removing the last Exchange 2003 server from an Exchange 2010 organization

$

We're in the process of decommissioning our last Exchange 2003 server, I have proceeded through the steps in the Microsoft guide on how to do this and have deleted both the Mailbox and Public Folder stores, removed the RUS policies for Domain and Enterprise.

All mailboxes and public folders are now homed on the new Exchange so nothing resides on the old Exchange 2003 server.

I have today inserted the Exchange 2003 media into the Exch 2003 server and chosen the remove action, but it keeps telling me;

'The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "Remove" because: - One or more users currently use a mailbox store on this server.

I checked the server by searching ADUC and also checked this KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279202 and nothing shows up.

I also checked this article on someones blog but no such luck http://smtp25.blogspot.co.uk/2007/04/having-trouble-to-uninstall-exchange.html

However someone made a comment that the used an ADSIedit query (&(objectCategory=user)(msExchHomeServerName=*)) however I am unsure how to do this in ADSI.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks!

We have an existing Hybrid Setup

On-Premise Exchange Version: Exchange 2010 SP3 RU1

Users are being migrated to Exchange Online every day.

We've read online that Distribution Group and Public Folder permissions and memberships cannot be modified by Exchange Online users, until and unless all DG and PFs are moved to Exchange online.

I'd like to confirm the above part.

Implementing Sites for a new Single Domain Environment and effects on Exchange

$

Copied from the Active Directory forums as the suggestion of replies.

I didn't find exactly what I was looking for so decided to create my own question to get some direct feedback.
Currently we have a single domain environment with two domain controllers located at two separate sites. When the domain was first set up, no configuration was done in the Sites and Services module for Active Directory. The two domain controllers we have are currently located in the Default-First-Site-Name container. We do not have any subnets configured with the Sites and Services module.
These two domain controllers are located at two different sites with different IP schemes and the sites are connected with a high speed site-to-site VPN. We also have 2 satellite offices with their own IP schemes as well with more offices to come. In the future domain controllers will be placed at these satellite offices which are connected with a slower site-to-site VPN to the main offices.
All replication and network functions are working well now, but I would like to know what the effects would be and what to watch out for if I create sites for our environment. I am particularly concerned about our Exchange 2010 server and need to make sure that the change will not disrupt communications between it and the domain controllers.
I would like to create a site for each of our locations and link the subnet to that site now so that when we install the domain controllers the configuration is ready.
Any suggestions or input is highly appreciated thank you in advance.

POP3 Logon problems with Exchange 2010 SP3

Recently I update Exchange 2007 SP3 to Exchange 2010 SP3.The structure is as below:

Exchange 2007 SP3:

Server1:CAS and HUB roles     a.abc.com

Server2:Mailbox role     b.abc.com

Exchange 2010 SP3:

Server1:CAS and HUB roles    c.abc.com

mailbox role is not set up yet till now

Till now all users are in 2007 servers, with 2007 CAS,Exchange,POP3,OWA mode is all OK.After installing and configurring 2010 SP3 CAS,I try to use 2010 CAS(c.abc.com) to logon,Exchange and OWA mode is OK,including send and receive mails. But when it come to POP3 mode, there is a problem. When configurring POP3 in Outlook 2010,no matter with sending test, just with logon matter.Sometimes, logon test is OK,without changing any configuration, sometimes get failure, with the message:"the server deny your logon,ERR Logon failure, unknow username or bad passwords",then pop a window, point out fill in the username and password.I fill in correct username and password ,it does not work all the same.I am sure there is no matter with the account.

This is not a protected groups issue

-  I have tried basic,simple,secure mode in pop3 service,apprearence as the same

- This is not a firewall issue

- The client configuration is ok and has been triple-checked

- The username and pwd has been triple-checked

- OWA and Outlook access works without problems (for types of mailboxes: 2007 ,no 2010 mailboxes yet)

- POP3 service has started

Anyone give me suggestions ,thanks a lot!

Hi,

I am stuck in a situation of migrating the emails and its sub mail folders from Entourage 2008 mail client runnung in mac over to Outlook 2010 installed in my windows system.

I have thousands of important mails stored in several folders in entourage 2008.

So how can I make the migration from Entourage to Outlook possible.

The solution will be really appreciated if its simple and direct, coz I have a loose hand in performing way-round step-wise technical stuff.

Thank you

I can see that the same mail was downloaded via ex 2007 and ex 2010. Looks same when opened through Outlook Client.

However when opened via notepad (eml). I see that there is a difference? Is this correct or there is some problem?

THe order which comes in notepad is From, to, date, subject for 2007

for 2010 from, to subject, thread topic, thread index and then date.

Exchange 2010 - External Exchange Services (OWA, OA etc.) - mulitple SMTP domains

$

0

Existing setup for organisation with 3 x accepted SMTP domains:

  • Mx: foodservices.com
  • Mx: foodsales.com
  • Mx: foodrd.com

.

All users logon using an foodservices domain account.

Existing hardware firewall (no TMG), which can be use for address re-direction.

So far, all 3 mx records points to 10.10.10.10 (= mail.foodservices.com i.e. simply the name of the firewall). Firewall forwards traffic to to mail filter which forwards to Exchange.

I wish to implement Exchange external services – OWA, ActivSync, OA, Autodiscover.

Q1: For my UC certificate is the following enough?:

    1. Webmail.Foodservices.com
    2. Autodiscover.foodservices.com
    3. Autodiscover.foodsales.com
    4. Autodiscover.foodrd.com

    .

My thinking is that foodservices.com will cover OWA, ActivSync, OA for both foodservices and foodsales. OWA address can be foodservices.com/owa for both sets of employees, this isn’t an issue.

Q2: Also could I have used mail.foodservices.com or would this have caused issues (as the firewall is called mail.foodservices.com). Happy enough to use webmail anyway.

Q3:  If the above UC cert is ok, can I use a single external DNS record for foodservices.com and foodsales.com. (e.g. webmail.foodservices.com) Can I point this to the existing address I use for MX redirects (10.10.10.10) or do I need a new address configured on the firewall.

Q4: Do I need DNS records for 3 x autodiscover?

Q5: When I configure my address in the firewall, do I simply add a rule to redirect it to corresponding internal address i.e. exchserver.foodserv.local…and all the extended address e.g. /owa, /activsync etc. will work as is.

Q6: Do I need to install the certs on the Exchange and / or the firewall. Obviosuly they are not required on the mail filter.

We already have Exchange 2010 SP2 RU7 running on a server. We would like to automate deploying the management tools to the Windows 7 workstations of admins that use the console.

Would a batch file with these commands work when run on a Windows 7 SP1 workstation?

          dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:IIS-WebServerRole

          Setup /r:MT

How can we deploy the management tools to the workstations with SP2 and RU7 already installed so we don't have to do a separate step of installing the service pack and rollup after doing the base install?
