can I reinstall exchange 2010 sp3 to re-register in active Directory 2012r2?

SBS migration gone horribly wrong.  I have 2 2012r2 servers, one as domain controller, one as Exchange server, not virtualized.  Right now, the exchange server works internally, can't be contacted externally by owa.  Essentials started out being able to contact Exchange, but not any longer.

The big problem: I think that when the domain control was moved from the SBS 2008r2 that Exchange was lost, or at least most of the connection data in AD was lost.  When I check for information in ADSI Edit, all of the Exchange security group containers are empty,  the Exchange system objects contains only the systemMailbox information and in Programs and Features there is no Exchange program.  I can create new users and then create a mailbox for them.

History: Joined both servers to the SBS domain, started moving AD, installed and moved Exchange, thought I had finished moving AD and the SBS server dies.  All FSMO roles moved before the SBS server died.

Big question: can I reinstall exchange to repair AD and connection problems and recover the datatbases currently in Exchange? If I create a temporary virtual machine on one of the servers and install Exchange on that could I move the data out of the current Exchange databases? I assume at that point I would have to wipe and reinstall the current Exchange server then move all the data back.  Can I even remove Exchange if it isn't showing up as a program, both from the domain or the server?

The simplest question is: can I reinstall Exchange and move the databases back into the new instance?

Edit: I just discovered that r2 is not supported with 2010.  My mistake in how I read the documentation.
