We are currently migrating all our exchange 2007 sp3 servers from physical 2003 OS boxes to VM 2008 OS. I have read the docs regarding upgrading a NLB 2003 to 2008 and understand that you cannot mix 2003/2008 in a NLB Cluster. I need to keep the original Cluster Name so clients can still connect without any config changes and the SSL Cert is issued for the current cluster name with hopefully minimal downtime/no downtime. To save any firewall changes I was hoping to use the existing Cluster IP on the new Cluster. So can I do the following?
- Install New 2008 servers
- Setup NLB with different Cluster name
- Install Exchange CAS and Hubtransport servers
- Identify and copy over all settings for CAS and Hub
Now this is where I start to wonder what the best procedure is for continuing or if its even possilbe.
- Stop the Old Cluster
- Change the Old Cluster Name
- Change the Old Cluster IP Address
- Set the New Cluster's Name to the exisiting Cluster name I want to continue using
- Set the New Cluster IP Address with the Old Cluster's IP Address
- Bring Cluster Online and Test.
- If all works ok Remove Old Nodes from Cluster and Delete Cluster
If all fails then I should be able to re-configure back?
