I have a test environment set up with copies of domains from my production environment. This environment was set up initially to document the process of performing a disaster recovery install of an Exchange 2003 server. My production environment has a root domain and 5 children in the forest. My test environment is a copy of the root domain and 1 child.
I have a root domain controller (2003), a child domain controller (2003), a rebuilt copy of an Exchange 2003 server with restored mailboxes.
Post Exchange 2003 disaster recovery rebuild, I spun up a Server 2008 R2 DC to replace the root domain controller, and a 2008 R2 to replace the 2003 child domain controller. I've also created a 2008 R2 server to install Exchange 2010 on, but I'm not having much luck.
I'm thinking my issue is, this environment is aware of the 4 other child domains and the Exchange 2003 servers in each. I've attempted to go through adsieditor and remove the other child domains, but Exchange is still aware of the other 4 Exchange servers in the admin group.
Am I going to be able to use this setup to test an install of Exchange 2010 and migrate mailboxes? Is there a way that I can remove all these references to Exchange servers and domains that aren't part of my test environment?
The result/warning on the schema master is:
Cannot find the Recipient Update Service responsible for domain 'DC=root,DC=com'. New and existing users may not be properly Exchange-enabled.
On the server to be the Exchange server, I'm getting errors for Organization Prerequisites:
Error: Setup needs to contact the Active Directory schema master but this computer is not in the same Active Directory domain as the schema master (DC=root,DC=com).
Error: Setup encountered a problem while validating the state of Active Directory: Exchange organization-level objects have not been created, and setup cannot create them because the local computer is not in the same domain and site as the schema master.
Run setup with the /prepareAD parameter on a computer in the domain root and site Test, and wait for replication to complete.
I am logged into this child domain member server as the enterprise admin, and this is in the same site as the schema master.
Thanks in advance.
