Unable to upgrade EmailAddressPolicy

$

Hi,

while migrating a Exchange 2003 to 2010 I tried upgrading the Default Email Address Policy with

Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllRecipients

But this fails with 7157D1AB,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.SetEmailAddressPolicy

The Default Policy has Version 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).

Any hints on how I can upgrade the Default Policy to the new version?

Regards,

Tom

Exchange Server 2007 SP3 - Unable to install RU12

Hello everyone,

We're in the process of upgrading our Exchange 2007 SP3 environment to prepare for the leap to Office 365. We'll shortly be installing an Exchange 2013 hybrid server but before doing so have to patch the existing environment to RU12. 11 of our 12 servers were patched without a problem. There's just one that isn't playing ball. :)

What happens:

  • If I double-click the MSP the installer gets to the step of 'Computing space requirements' before crashing with error code 2771
  • If I run it from the command line with verbose logging I get the following output

=== Verbose logging started: 17/02/2014 04:37:09 Build type: SHIP UNICODE 5.00.7600.00 Calling process: C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe ===

It's a Windows Server 2008 R2 box running Exchange 2007 SP3 with the Hub Transport and Client Access roles installed. I've noticed that 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 isn't installed but it's not present on any of the other Exchange servers in the organisation.

Any and all advice very gratefully received.

Thanks!

I have been reading through available documentation for best practices for this p2v migration.  One thing mentioned in this article is for 2007 to match the vcpu's to the number of cores the physical machine had.  currently the physical machine has eight.  For the conversion i am wondering if i can drop that to four.

Thanks in advance.

Exchange 2010 OWA Proxy to 2010 CAS Not Working

$

I'm in the process of migrating a remote site to Exchange 2010 from 2003. In our main site we have a 2010 CAS fully functioning. This remote site is non-internet facing which I made sure to specify during setup.

I'm noticing once I migrate a user to 2010 in the remote site, they are no longer able to proxy OWA from our main site.  It works internally because it appears that it's passing it to the actual internal name of the server.  Externally obviously this fails.

I have made sure that there is no ExternalURL specified for OWA in the remote site.  I don't understand why it's trying to pass me to the internal URL.  Can someone help?

Edit:  As soon as I try to login to an account in second site from first site OWA, it redirects to this URL:  https://SiteB-Internal/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://SiteB-Internal/owa/ping.owa&reason=0

Hi

its  exchange 2007 sp3 supported , in a Microsoft active directory windows 2012R2.

i have done a installation in a multi domain ,  and i run in this odd problem..

when a outlook uses a windows 2012r2 as GC the rpc responce time in exchange directory is hight

its only when i send email to a extern email.  the problem is :

i create new email  type the extern email adress like a gmail.com, when i press send i takes between 6 to 25 second before email i sent,

The problem is not when i connect to  a windows 2003 R2,  Windows 2008R2 or Windows 2012 GC. (global catalog)

Thanks

Remove a domain from Exchange 2003, now other domains cannot send to the old domain error 5.1.1

We have a single Exchange 2003 server.  We have multiple mail domains on the server, but are slowly moving to a hosted email solution.  I moved the first domain, I will call itdomainABC, to our hosted solution.  I have removed all exchange mailboxes from the users, and deselected the domain from Recipient Policies.  I then ran the policy.

Whenever I send an email to anyone on Domain ABC from any other domain on the Exchange server, I get the 5.1.1 message.  I am not sure what to do next - any help would be appreciated...

Unable to uninstall exchange 2007

I am trying to uninstall a Exchange 2007 server that is in the same forest as a Exchange 2003 server. I'm getting the following error:
-------------------
Mailbox Role Prerequisites
Failed

Error:
Uninstall cannot proceed. Database 'Public Folder Database': The public folder database specified contains folder replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database.
Recommended Action: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30939&l=EN&v=ExBPA.3&id=b6e3b32a-8848-46cb-9567-72288ac15f60

I can see that its some of the system folders that are set up to replicate with the Exchange 2003 server. But I can't find the Exchange Management Shell command to remove the replicas.

P2V and back again

I performed a VMARE P2V Conversion ealier in the week on a SBS2003R2 Server and have nothing but issues. I need to reactivate the physical machine. There is not a lot of data on it that has changed but would like to keep it simple. I am hoping I can just shutdown the VM, mount the VMDK in a second vm as a second hdd. Start up the physical, shutdown all exchange services, backup the exchsrv folder, and then move the exchsrv folder from the VMDK to the Physical and restart the services. Probably not that easy, but I am hoping. The locations of the DB's should not change, just the contents.

Any thoughts?

Cannot Migrate SystemMailboxes from First Database in New Exchange 2010 Org

$

Hi All,

I created a new Exchange 2010 organization for a new domain/forest my company is spinning-up.  The server was installed with the Exchange 2010 SP3 setup file and had Update Rollup 4 applied.

I started setting things up and decided before moving much further along that I would get rid of the original DB and create a new one.  So I created the new one, then I tried and migrate the original System Mailboxes and the Federated Email mailbox, but neither are showing up if I run Get-Mailbox with the -Arbitration switch.  Additionally, I cannot simply move them because it states the "object couldn't be found on '<domain controller>'.

As for the potential oddities of this new forest, I have a root domain that is being used simply as a "Place-holder" of sorts, as this business venture will have a presence in multiple countries (the thought being each country will have a sub-domain under the root).
The first sub-domain is where this Exchange server lives.  I have no Exchange servers in the root domain.  When I prepped the domain (/PS, /P, and /PAD) and I ran all of the steps from the single DC in the root domain as the built-in administrator (with Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin rights) and this account has been added to the Organization Administrators group.

Additionally, I was able to successfully migrate the "Microsoft Exchange" and "Discovery Search Mailbox" mailboxes (both accounts exist in the root domain; domain.local/Users) as does the FederatedEmail mailbox and this last phantom SystemMailbox (the two "normal" SystemMailbox objects exist in the sub-domain in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container, as expected).

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to move or remove these mailboxes?   Again, I cannot see them when running Get-Mailbox -Arbitration.  I saw some people have resolved this by removing the mailboxes via ADSIedit, but I don't necessarily want to do that if I don't need to.  And if I do have to do that, how do I re-create the missing mailboxes/user accounts that I need?

Thanks in advance!

Cross Forest Mailbox Migration

Hi.

I am preparing for an account & mailbox migration from Domain A\Exchange 2007 to Domain B\Exchange 2010. I am going to following the steps below to migrate the users, can you please advise if there are any pit falls in my plan. Please note I am not worried about mailing between Org’s or Free/Busy as I plan to migrate all the mailboxes over a weekend.

Domain A:

·        Domain Function level: Windows Server 2008

·        Forest Function Level: Windows 2003

·        Exchange 2007 SP2

·        Email address: user@domainA.com

Domain B:

·        Domain Function level: Windows Server 2003

·        Forest Function Level: Windows 2003

·        Exchange 2010 SP1

·        Email address: user @domainB.com

These are the steps I am going to use

1.      Migrate accounts using ADMT 3.0

2.      Extract Prepare-MoveRequest.Ps1 on Exchange 2010

3.      Enable-MailUser -Identity JBloggs -ExternalEmailAddress jbloggs@domainA.com

4.      Run this cmd on Exchange 2010: Syntax: $Local = Get-Credential

5.      Followed by Syntax: $Remote = Get-Credential

6.      .\Prepare-MoveRequest.Ps1 -Identity "DN of a user from SourceForest" -RemoteForestDomainController "FQDN of Source DC" -RemoteForestCredential $Remote -LocalForestDomainController "FQDN of Target Forest DC" -LocalForestCredential $Local -TargetMailUserOU "Distinguished name of OU in TargetForest" –UseLocalObject

7.      New-MoveRequest -Identity “Distinguished name of User in Target Forest” -RemoteLegacy -TargetDatabase “E2K10 Mailbox Database Name” -RemoteGlobalCatalog “FQDN of Source DC” -RemoteCredential $Remote -TargetDeliveryDomain“Target domain name”

How to remove replicas from Exchange 2007 after migrating users Cloud Solutions

After migrating users away from Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008 to the cloud, we can not remove the relicas from Exchange Server public folders.  The Exchange Server application must be removed from SBS 2008 as part of the migration to Server 2012 R2 Essentials.

After completeing all of the suggested steps, the replicas remain along with several Public dolfers that will not delete:

[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-PublicFolderStatistics

Is there a way to force remove these folders?

Organization not detected when running E2010 SP3 setup

I am working on an Exchange 2010 organization with two multi-role servers in it. They are running SP2 with no rollups. I attempted to install an additional server using SP3 media, but during the setup, it does not detect the existing Exchange organization, but instead asks me if i want to create the First Organization object.

Initially I thought that perhaps this might be because some schema needed updating, so I ran setup /PrepareDomain using the SP3 media, but when I reran GUI setup, I got the same thing: it doesn't see an existing Exchange org and wants to create one called First Organization.

I used ADSIEdit to confirm that the Exchange org objects were there, but I'm not sure what to look at next.

Any ideas?

Getting NDR #< #5.7.1> #SMTP#

Getting the below NDR message when an email is send internally to the Distribution Group. Hence Causing the email loss.

We have Exchange 2003 & Exchange 2010 environment. But mostly all the objects are migrated to Exchange 2010.

 #< #5.7.1> #SMTP#

Your message wasn't delivered due to a permission or security issue. It may have been rejected by a moderator, the address may only accept e-mail from certain senders, or another restriction may be preventing delivery.

I already checked the spf blog & some others on the technet to find the solution. But no luck.

Any suggestions or resolutions on this error will be very helpful.

Exchange 2010 SP3 Mail.Que Journaling

Since Enabling SMTP Journaling we have been having issues.

  • We using Mimecast for Archiving.
  • Scan Mail for Exchange
  • Forefront End Point Protection ( Excluded all Exchange file and Directories)

Now the Journal mail fails with message

> was acknowledged with SMTP response 550 5.6.2 SMTPSEND.BareLinefeedsAreIllegal; message contains bare linefeeds, which cannot be sent via DATA.

Mail will just build and build for Journaling.

the Mail.que was around 10GB

Some Settings:

  • PipelineTracingEnabled $False
  • MaxDumpsterSizePerDatabase          : 20 MB (20,971,520 bytes)
  • MaxDumpsterTime                     : 7.00:00:00

I did not get the error message above and all mail delivered after I Deleted mail.que.

My problem is that I have to do this every 2 weeks.

Question is what can I do to prevent this and do I loose all my mail by just removing mail.que?
