Cross Forest Migration Exchange 2010

Hi,

I am in a situation where we are in planning for cross forest migration, below is the scenario:

Currently we have 2 Forests:

abc.com (Users forest)
xyz.com (Exchange Forest)
123.com (new user forest)

we need to migrate our user forest(abc.com) to the new forest (123.com).

we have all linked mailboxes in our exchange forest(xyz.com) for all of the users in (abc.com).
now we are planning to migrate the users from (abc.com) to the new forest (123.com).

how migrated users in 123.com  will be linked with their mailboxes in the exchange forest(xyz.com) ? and how about the permissions on the mailboxes will it remain intact or we have to assign the permissions again on the mailboxes ?

please suggest me the scenario...

Hi All,
I have install Exchange 2007 CCR cluster on Windows 2008 servers using this guide.
http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/high-availability-recovery/deploying-exchange-2007-sp1-ccr-cluster-windows-server-2008-failover-cluster-part1.html\

Everything want well with the install but when I sent email the email goes to the draft folder if I use OWA and if I use outlook it goes no where (i cant see the email after i press send).

I have used the mail flow tool and I get this error :
The value for the '\MSExchangeIS Mailbox\Messages Queued For Submission' counter on server MBX is greater than zero (average value is 13) and it appears that 'MSExchangeMailSubmission' is failing to submit messages to at least one computer with the Hub Transport server role installed over the last minute.

Can someone please help ?

The layout is this
DC - server 08
Custer 1 - server 08
Cluster 2 - server 08
CAS client access - server 08

Cheers,
Simon

I recently migrated users from exchange 2003 to 2010 and for some reason the servers that used to fire notification to users are not sending anymore. i think i might have missed a setting while planning for the new deployment. I created a receive connector and put the servers that i want to relay mails but it does not seem to be working and im not getting any errors or ques on exchange server.

please assist with this

Best Path to upgrade Exch 2010 SP1/W2K8 R2 to Exch2010 SP3/W2K8 R2 SP1

What would be the best path forward to upgrade an existing Exchange 2010 SP1 server (no rollups) on Windows Server 2008 R2 to Exchange 2010 SP3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1? Exchange is on a DAG with a secondary server.

After shutting down old Exchange 5.5 Server Outlook connections to new Exchange are VERY SLOW

Greetings!

For some number of months the Exchange services on my old Exchange 5.5 server have been shut down. But when I shut down the operating system entirely the connections from a bunch of my Outlook clients to the new Exchange Server are VERY SLOW.

So, there must be some resolution process being attempted that finally times out.

What do I need to do to avoid this client slowdown? Should Cache Mode have an effect in this instance?

Thank you.

Require that all senders are authenticated no longer working

$

Hello,

I've already mentioned it in another thread, but maybe it's an update-issue in stead of server issue.

My problem: It seems (well, it doesn't work anymore, so it's an issue) that the option "Require that all senders are authenticated" on 'Distribution Group' not longer works. I really don't know why this happends and when it doesn't work anymore, because it did work when creating the group (and the updates weren't available).

The situation (so maybe there's another option to find out what causes the problem):

Pineapp -> Exchange 2007 SP2 Rollup 4. The pineapp is being used before I installed updates of Exchange (and it did work with this setup), so in my opinion, this can't be the problem.

If someone could help me, or point me to a (new) direction so I can solve the problem with our Exchange server, that would be great :).

Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup Update 5 will not install, Interim Update reported where none exists.

I am trying to install Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 on a single server. Have done this several times on servers for other clients but this one fails. Exchange Server is at SP3 RU2 level. Have also tried to install RU3 and RU4 and they all fail with the same error. After enabling Installer Logging as per article http://support.microsfot.com/default.aspx?scid=223300 I find this in the log:

Property(C): msgINTERIMUPDATEDETECTED = Unable to install because a previous Interim Update for Exchange Server 2010 has been installed.  Please use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the Interim Update before running this setup again.
Property(C): ButtonText_Remove = &Remove
Property(C): msgRequiresProc = The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Exchange Server 2010 that you're running. Check your computer to see whether you need an x64 (64-bit) or x86 (32-bit) version of this file.

The log does not appear to list what the offending Interim Update details are.

I checked Add-Remove Programs as per article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff637981.aspx looking for "Interim Updates". The only update shown for Exchange Server is CU2. Nothing is labeled as "interim".

The server has BES Express for Exchange v5.0.3; PowerShell 3.0; DPM 2012 R2 Client. These were all present when RU2 was installed.

I presume I do not have to uninstall RU2, so how do I install RU5, or at least determine the cause of the failure?

TIA, Ray

UPDATE: SOLVED

Sometimes its easy to overlook the obvious. Turns out I was using a new administrative account and forgot to run the .msp installer under an elevated prompt. Sadly that was not clearly stated anywhere, and I only got reminded of it while searching for the Event 1603 that this error generates. Buried in commentary in http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/11/25/released-update-rollup-3-for-exchange-2010-service-pack-3.aspx was the answer.

Turn off UAC or run in elevated mode!. Utterly missed it partly because the installer gives a UAC elevation prompt before it fails. should have known anyway - just forgot.

How to set up fax solution using Windows 2008 R2 Fax server role and Exchange 2007

$

Hello,

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but since it is related to Exchange I thought it might be. If this is not the right place, please direct me to the forum where my post would be more appropriate.

I'm looking to set up a Fax solution for the company that I work for as we are moving away from analog phone lines to VoIP using SIP. My original thought was to set up a Windows 2008 R2 server with Fax server role installed and have it route the fax message to Exchange 2007 SP3 so the fax message can be delivered to each user's inbox. I was reading a little bit on the Windows Fax server role and from what I saw it looks like it can only route fax messages to one email address. This not ideal for my company. Is there a way to have the fax server role route the email to each user's inbox? If so, how can I achieve this?

How can implement this for this sending outgoing faxes as well?

I don't know if this releveant or not but I will be using Asterisk as a media gateway between our SIP trunks and the Windows Fax server.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Remove Domain Controller role from Exchange 2010 Server

Hi team,

There is a client with Domain Controller (2008 R2) running together with Exchange Server 2010 SP3. However there were some huge problems with Exchange and DC therefore since the best practice is to keep those roles seperately, they are in need of doing so.

Can someone please suggest me the best approach? The server they use right now is with 16GB therefore whatever done, Exchange should be on that machine and DC on the other 6GB.

Option 01.

  • Both Exchange and DC are together
  • Install new Exchange on a temporary Server and move everything make that Exchange server the only working primary
  • Remove exchange from the DC server
  • Promote new Additional DC and promote it with FSMO and make primary
  • Demote the old DC from the 16GB server
  • Install Exchange again on the 16GB server and move everything from the temporary server

Or Option 02

  • Add new additionall Domain Controller server and make it primary with GC and FSMO
  • Run dcpromo to demote the old Domain controller role from where the Exchange Server too is installed
  • Once DC role is removed from the exchange server, set up DNS and perform a restart, so Exchange will identify the new GC and domain controller
  • Live happily ever after

Thank You,
Cheers!!

cannot create mailbox

I have DC on windows 2003

Exchange 2003 on other windows 2003

While i create user account at ADUC - user creates but mailbox no.

I mean there is no email address at email addreses tab, at exchange console there is no such mailbox too.

If i give FULL rights to group 'Everyone' - mailbox creates.

setup.exe /domainprep with exchange 2003 distro doesn't help.

I mention that if i give full rights, on a domain level, to group 'everyone' - it doens't matter that newly created OU inhereits 'everyone' rights, and the same with user and it's parent OU. (maybe it's ok i don't know)

'Everyone' group by default at my domain have only change password rights (what is strange i guess) and that's all.

How can i fix this ?

Thank you.

EXCH 2010: Event ID's 5015 & 5016

HI,

Let me start by saying I am still learning my way around Exchange 2010.

We recently had a consultant help us migrate to Exchange 2010 from 2003.  We are getting errors in the event viewer that I believe indicate that Exchange is still looking for the old server, which is now offline but available if needed.  I'll paste the info from event viewer below.

I am pretty certain that we deleted the routing group connector between the two servers.  Also, when I run "Get-RoutingGroupConnector" it returns nothing.

As I said earlier, the old EXCH 2003 server is offline but is available if I need to bring it back up to resolve this issue.  I would like to get rid of it completely but I want to make sure I don't need it anymore first.  I would really appreciate any tips on where to start so I can resolve this issue.

Thanks,
JG

Distribution Lists and Members Add using CSV

Hi all, been reading all the threads on this topic. I have scripts to build the DL's from CSV in bulk, that's easy. I can even probably do some clever slice and dice of the xcel file to make the group members get populated but I am not sure I have seen a PS script that will work. Here's what my CSV will look like:

Group_Name      1st smtp address     2nd smtp address  3rd smtp adderss and so on

my_DL             first smtp address      second smtp address  3rd smtp address

Currently I have this all in a sheet where the group name is first column and the addresses are all semi colon separated in one column for each group. So group my_DL has 25 members with ; separating them in another column. I can quickly use excel to make it look like above, so the question is, does anyone have sample code that would parse a single column x number of times, rather than splitting this out into a ton of columns each with one entry.

It would be nice to keep one big CSV but if it's not easy to script, then breaking it down to individual CSV files and running those through will be fine. Thanks

I'm sure there are other threads on this my terminology must be off on searching for them.

I have a 2010 exchange environmnet, VMWare, max ____ 2TB.  I don't know if I need to say max disk, volume, lun or single storage device.  But if the role calc is going to help me I need to input this limit.  I have 2 mbx servers, no DAGs.

The calc returns lun sizes of 6+ TB but I can't have luns that large.

How/where do I input the right number so the calc will help me with storage configuration?

Mailbox move request error

Hi,

We have Exchange 2010 SP3 and Exchange 2013 CU2 installed in our infrastructure. I did the migration of users from Exchange 2010 to 2013 and everything went fine but now i am having issues with 2 user's mailbox while migrating them to Exchange 2013 from 2010. These are two different users reside on two different database at Exchange 2010.

1. Move request failed at 10% with an error message of "Transient Failure". I am moving the users mailbox from Exchange management shell of 2013.

2. Move request failed at 95% with an error message of "Poisoned Mailbox". I am moving the users mailbox from Exchange management shell.

When i tried to move them from EAC, move request failed with the error message that the said user is already in destination database (Destination database is Exchange 2013 db).

I need quick resolution for these issues so that we i can proceed with my project closure. Thanks.

Upgrade Custom Recipient Policies as part of Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration

Hello,

We have Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 in co-existence. I have migrated all Mailboxes to Exchange 2010. Now I want to upgrade Recipient Policies.

We have 1 Default Policy, which I know how to upgrade

Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllReipients.

But my I dont know how to do it for 2 other Custom Policies. I came to know about the conversion scripts (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351283.aspx) but not sure how to run. I mean simply run the script on Exchange 2010 server or any special parameters needs to be included.

I can let you know the custom policies if required.

Thanks,

Mihir
