Uninstalling Exchange 2007 - Folder Replicas Error

$
0
0
I'm trying to remove Exchange 2007 which I was testing using our development system but have come across some errors during the uninstall process.

The error message I receive is something like this: Error: Uninstall cannot continue. Database "Public Folder Database": The public folder database "SERVER\Second Storage Group\Public Folder Database" contains folder replicas...

Now unfortunately i'm a) no exchange expert (i'm a .NET dev) and b) we dont use exchange for email - so I cant move folders to an alternative location.

All I want to do is remove the software without bringing the network down again (I didn't realise removing a mailbox from exchange 07 removed the user account as well!).

Thanks for your help,
Matt

Multiple MAPI public folder trees were found

I am moving from 2003 to 2010.

I got all the way to the point where I need to move the public folders.
When I use the Public Folders Management Console in Exchange 2010, I get the following error.

"Multiple MAPI public folder trees were found"

I am trying to follow the instructions given by the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant .

There are the first few steps.
In the Console tree, click Toolbox.
2. In the Result pane, double-click Public Folder Management Console. The Public Folder Management Console appears.
3. In the public folder tree, click or expand Default Public Folders, and then select the parent public folder of the public folder that you want to move to Exchange 2010.

This is where I get the error.

I did the adsiedit as described here .

I can now see the public folders under the Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) in the ESM on my 2003 server.
but 2010 server still give the error.

I run these commands

[PS] D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts>Get-PublicFolder -Recurse | Format-List Name,Replicas

Name : IPM_SUBTREE
Replicas : {}

[PS] D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts>Get-PublicFolder \NON_IPM_SUBTREE | Format-List Name,Replica

Require that all senders are authenticated no longer working

Hello,

I've already mentioned it in another thread, but maybe it's an update-issue in stead of server issue.

My problem: It seems (well, it doesn't work anymore, so it's an issue) that the option "Require that all senders are authenticated" on 'Distribution Group' not longer works. I really don't know why this happends and when it doesn't work anymore, because it did work when creating the group (and the updates weren't available).

The situation (so maybe there's another option to find out what causes the problem):

Pineapp -> Exchange 2007 SP2 Rollup 4. The pineapp is being used before I installed updates of Exchange (and it did work with this setup), so in my opinion, this can't be the problem.

If someone could help me, or point me to a (new) direction so I can solve the problem with our Exchange server, that would be great :).

how to extract the mailboxes from *.edb files

I am using windows 2007, SP2, 64 bit operating system and exchange server 2007 on top it.

I have migrated my users to a third party solution.

Unfortunately, during this migration, there are 2 uses who seems to have lost few e-mails (nearly 2 weeks e-mails ..not sure how that happened but the backup PST does not have it hence it was not uploaded to the third party provider ...)

How do i get the pst from .edb file so I can put it again to synch with the new platform ??

Expiring Exchange certs on a SBS 2011 Standard server

We have many servers running SBS 2011 standard. On one particular server (which just passed the three year mark this past weekend) we are seeing MSExchangeTransport Event ID 12015 and 12016, telling us that an internal transport certificate has expired.

Based upon research, using the Get-ExchangeCertificate command, I have found that there are five different thumbprints indicating certificates. We currently have a commercial 5 year cert for the web user interface and AD synchronization.

Looking at the results of Get-ExchangeCertificate | fl, I can see that the first certificate (server.domain.local) goes from 4/10/2014 to 4/10/2015, the second (remote.domainname.com) goes from 8/16/2011 to 8/16/2016 (this is the commercial cert), the third goes from 8/15/2011 to 8/12/2021, the fourth (this is the thumbprint referenced in the 12015 error) goes from 8/15/2011 to 8/14/2013 and the fifth goes from 8/15/2011 to 8/14/2013.

Reviewing the event log shows that the fifth certificate (also expired) is never referenced.

Several accepted answers on technet and other sites show that running Fix My Network will correct the problem, but running FMN on this server just shows me that my DHCP server is not running (which it is) and it wants me to create a static IPv6 address (which it did not accomplish.)

What is the best way to fix a problem where important self-signed certificates expire after only two years?

Specify per-user SMTP credentials

I've setup Exchange to send mail with a smarthost (gmail), which requires Authentication.

This works great if all users on the server are sending through that one gmail account, but that isn't the case.  I created a connector for each account, with the same cost, and using * as the access range.  I set access rights up in Delivery Restrictions for each connector, and applied to registry fix to enforce checking.

I expected that Exchange would select a connection, check it, if it failed, try the other, which would succeed.  This isn't the case, I've read there is some caching going on or something.  The messages are sent based on a "random" selection of the connector, without rights coming into play.

Is there ANY way I can specify different SMTP credentials for each user?

I would also be fine with *@dave.domain.com -> user/pass1, *@joe.domain.com -> user/pass2, but I haven't found a way to set this up with a single server.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Edit:

I'm using Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003.

Connector exchange 2003 and lotus Notes Migration: Add ".exchange" in Address SMTP

$

I have Lotus Domino Server R5.0.11 and Exchange server 2003 running the lotus connector. All e-mails from the internet and remote company users (using Lotus notes) come through the lotus Domino server. Any e-mails that a designated to the users who have mailboxes on the exchange server get routed by the lotus server through the lotus connector.
Lotus mailbox users on the network can have no problems sending e-mail back and forth to exchange users or vice versa.
Also remote company users using lotus notes can send e-mails to exchange users and the exchange users can send e-mails back to them.

The Problem is if an external user( e.g. bob@hotmail.com) sends an e-mail to our exchange user (e.g. john.smith@ourcompany.co.uk) then the exchange user receives the e-mail with a from header which looks like this in Outlook
"bob" @ournotesdomain

When John.smith replyÆs to this e-mail, then bob@hotmail.com receives it, but he cannot reply because when you look at the from header it reads this

From john.smith John.smith.exchange@ourcompany.co.uk (note the .Exchange has been added for some unknown reason)
So if bob replies to this address he will get a NDR, since this address is incorrect and does not exist on either of the two servers.

Also all the exchange users are listed in the lotus directory as foreign domain users, meaning there address looks like this
John.smith@Exchange

Has anyone experienced this problem, has a solution or any ideas on how to prevent the .exchange being added to the from address header.

Your help would be very much appreciated

OAB URL not found in Test E-mail Autoconfiguration

Hello, we are having issues implementing the Offline Address Book.  I had everything working fine prior to preparing to remove my Exchange 2003 server.

This started happening after i changed from one address book to another.  I have a UC certificate with all the correct FQDN, NetBios, and DNS names.  This issue is affecting both internal and external users (OLAW).

From the client side if you do a Test E-mail autoconfiguration there is no "OAB URL" under the "OOF URL", where there used to be one.

I am able to access https://outlook.mydomain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml& https://outlook.mydomain.com/oab/<GUID>/oab.xml from the inside as well as the outside and I get the XML text.

Here are some results from the EMC

Server hangs on restart

Hi,

New Exchange 2007 SP1 server, joined to a single server Exchange 2003 organisation. Installed Exchange fine, connected to 2003, applied rollup, etc etc, migrated a test mailbox - all good.

Server object was moved to another OU, reboot server, server hangs at applying computer settings. Can look at eventvwr and srvmgr remotely.

The only way we were able to get the server to work was by adding it to the Domain Admins group!

Without the server in the domain admins group, get a whole series of Exchange errors at boot:
App log
  • MSExchange ADAccess, 2501, The site monitor API was unable to verify the site name for this Exchange computer - Call=HrSearch Error code=80040a01.
  • MSExchange ADAccess, 2114, Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040a02
  • MSExchangeIS, 1121, Error 0x96f connecting to the Microsoft Active Directory.
  • MSExchange ADAccess, 2604, Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGY (PID=1464). When updating security for a remote procedure call (RPC) access for the Exchange Active Directory Topology service, Exchange could not retrieve the security descriptor for Exchange server object XXXMAIL2 - Error code=80040a01

System Log
  • The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated with service-specific error 0 (0x0).
  • Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Microsoft Exchange Service Host service to connect.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Service Host service failed to start due to the following error:
  • The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

All very strange! Boot the server into safe mode, disable Exchange services, boots fine
Checked access to DCs - all good
Checked that no GP were affecting the security settings - all good
Moved the server back to the computer OU - still wont boot

Fixed the issue by adding the Exchange server to the Domain Admins group and restarting - booted straight away, Exchange works perfectly.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue - obviously don't want to leave the server as part of domain admins...

Thanks

Nick

BTW, server is not a DC

Need some recommendations for export to PST of Notes mail data and local archives > PST.

I'm aware of the Quest offerings and have used QNME in previous migrations, however this particular migration warrants the export of all Source data to PST only  - without any coexistence etc.

IF anyone can reccomend offerings outside of Quest i'd like to hear experiences.

Google Apps migration to Hosted Exchange

Hi,

We have recently migrated from Gmail to Hosted Exchange. For historical data we setup mailboxes to download Gmail using IMAP then we exported these into PSTs.

We imported the PSTs into the users new Exchange accounts (Aware no calendar/contacts at this stage)- what we have found now is the Gmail reference folders, which is expected, but when you right click on it it still has 'IMAP Folder'. When we go back into the account we cant see any IMAP links, and considering this was imported with PST surely these would've been lost (that's what I expected).

The issue now is you cant freely drag and drop as the IMAP is causing permission issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We're using Windows 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010, the server is currently a global catalog server and running exchange. We've upgraded from SBS 2003 and the old server is still running but was to be removed from the domain any day now. Everything had been working properly for about a year but today after the server was reset everything just stopped working. The application event log shows multiple errors that just continue in an endless loop every few minutes, I've googled each one individually and so far none of the suggested fixes have helped. I've reset the server multiple times without luck.

The only change that was done to exchange recently was we listed static domain controllers and global catalog servers using (Set-ExchangeServer -Identity <server_name> -StaticDomainControllers DC-01.dc.local)and (Set-ExchangeServer -Identity <server_name> -StaticGlobalCatalogs DC-01.dc.local,DC-02.dc.local)because exchange was still using the old SBS2003 server. It had been reset at least once since doing this and everything continued to work. I assume this is what's causing the issue but I have no way to undo it since I can't get exchange to start and I'm not sure why it would work properly for a few days if this is the case.

- 20120913:  Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (KB2706690) 14.2.318.2

The reason the CAS servers were using an earlier build version was because during the upgrade we had to open a MS case and they couldn't figure out why a service kept restarting. They only gave the reason that it had to be 3rd party software which we weren't able to isolate. So they told us it was okay to kep the CAS at the earlier versions. Servers seemed to be stable the past couple of years.

Tonight we upgraded from the above versions to SP3, and then SP3 UR5. It seems the same issue is occurring. ActiveSync & WebApp clients seem to work normally, but Outlook has problems connecting. The CAS application logs have regular instances of the following errors:
