BPA shows domain prepped for Exchange 2007 SP1 after SP3 install

$

Hello,

I have a Client with a domain that is at 2003 domain functional level and 2000 forest level.

The client had Exchange 2007 SP1 and I have just upgraded it to SP3. There is one CAS, one Hub Transport, and one Mailbox Server (All three had Exchange 2007 SP1).

The domain and forest were prepped earlier by someone else and when I ran the installation program, it didn't pop up any errors on any of the servers.

The upgrade to SP3 is in preperation to Exchange 2010. Everything is working ok. I have checked:

1) In ADSIEdit, Exchange System Objects properties: Object Version =11221.

2) In ADSIEdit, Services>Microsoft Exchange>Organization: Object Version =11222

3) In ADSIEdit, RangeUpper value of ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt object = 14625

However, When I run the Exchange BPA, it reports that the domain is prepped for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (In informational items). This is an informational item and not a warning or alert. However, I am concerned. Is this normal, and will it affect the migration to Exchange 2010?

Thanks,

HA

Using 2010 to bridge from 2003 to 2013

Hi there, I have one AD domain with exchange 2003 and would like to install both Exchange 2010 and 2013 on the network.

I know i can't directly migrate from 2003 to 2013, But wondered if I could take each mailbox in turn and move then to 2010, then from 2010 to 2013? We have less than 50 mailboxes.

the public folders would be saved as PST files and reconnected afterwards.

Then i'd decommission 2003 and 2010 to leave us with just 2013.

Is this possible?

Many thnaks

Importing PST into Migrated Mailbox

HELLO ALL,

When migrating from lotus to exchange, if the message that are encryted, they are skipped, but the rest of the messages are moved to the new mailbox.  If one makes a PST using some third party software and import the pst into the mailbox, would the messages come into the folder structure present in the mailbox.  For instance if Folder A contained encrypted messages at lotus domino, but when migrated, it became empty at exchange.  So, if we import the PST into mailbox, would the Folder A be showing us the messages that were present at lotus?

thanks in advance.

Online Archive for Exchange 2007

Prior to upgrading to Exchange 2013 before end of year, we are currently undergoing a thorough cleanout of our Exchange 2007 environment.  Sadly, we had some users with well over 100K items in their deleted items, so you can only imagine what the rest of their mailboxes look like.  While we implement proposed policies for Exchange, we need an online Exchange Archive (preferably free) to be as seemless as possible  to the user, but something that can automatically move messages to the archive based on whatever threshold we set:  3 months after delivery, 6 months after delivery, or whatever.  We would also plan to import any errant PSTs into this archive.

I found THIS article, but it only mentions a patch that we are well beyond.  Is there anything in Exchange 2007 similar to the archive in 2010?

Thanks,

Nelson

Restore Exchange Mailboxes

Our EDB files(Exchange 2010) got corrupt and we tried every possible way to restore mailboxes but with no success. So, we have decided to use third party utility to repair and restore exchange mailboxes. But there are several options available to repair corrupt EDB. We have shortlisted the following 4 edb repair tools and are confused, which one to go for it?

1. Lepide Exchange recovery manager.

2. Kernel Exchange Recovery software

3. Stellar Exchange Server Recovery

4. Datanumen

Please share your opinions which one of the 4 we should purchase?

Exchange 2010 Shared mailbox permissions gone

$

In Exchange2010, I created a shared mailbox yesterday, then granted several groups and individuals "full access permissions" to the Shared mailbox.

When I arrived at work this morning and looked at the permissions, all the permissions  I had assigned were gone, except for a single individual.

I re-applied the same permissions and checked them an hour later and they were gone again.  I thought it may be related to the groups, so I selected several individuals and gave them Full Access Permissions to the Shared Mailbox.  I checked that some time later to discover that several individuals were missing again..

What might cause this to happen

Removing old exchange 2003 routing groups from Exchange 2010.

I have migrated over to Exchange 2010(server2008) from Exchange 2003(SBS2003). I've also already run the uninstall for exchange 2003 on the old SBS 2003 server. The old server itself is still running but exchange has been removed and once I get this fixed I plan to fully remove the old SBS server.

I now get event ID 5020 and 5006 throughout the day on the new server. From what I've read, this happens because the old routing group connectors still exist.

If I run Get-ExchangeServer I get

Name                Site                 ServerRole  Edition     AdminDisplayVersion

SERVER                                   None        Standard    Version 6.5 (Bui...
SERVER2008          hr.local/Configur... Mailbox,... Standard    Version 14.0 (Bu...

Am I correct in assuming that the way to fix this now is to go into ADSI edit and delete records under CN=First Administrative Groups? As in delete CN=Routing Groups and CN=Servers and everything under both of those? I'd try this myself but I'm not aware of any way to restore those records easily if I'm wrong.

Need to completely remove all Exchange from domain, running 2010

$

Hi,

We moved a domain's email to our servers. They had been running Exchange 2010. We migrated PST files, changed MX records, stopped all exchange services on their server and reconfigured the Outlook clients. They have a single Exchange 2010 server located in a mixed 2008 / 2003 AD environment. I want to properly decommission this server, but all the articles I find are for coexistence or moving to Office365. Does anyone know if I need to start the services and remove the individual mailboxes first, or should I just uninstall exchange from Add/Remove programs? What is the proper way to completely remove exchange?

Thank you for your assistance with this.

Reccomendations: Lotus Notes Mail Server Data - Convert to PST

Need some recommendations for export to PST of Notes mail data and local archives > PST.

I'm aware of the Quest offerings and have used QNME in previous migrations, however this particular migration warrants the export of all Source data to PST only  - without any coexistence etc.

IF anyone can reccomend offerings outside of Quest i'd like to hear experiences.

TIA.

SBS 2010

I have a cert from godaddy witch is a wild card cert... *.mydomain.com

I have dns a records on godaddy from x.mydomain.com and webmail.mydomain.com

my internal domain is mydomain.local and my server is y.mydomain.local

when I htps://x.mydomain.com I get

You attempted to reach x.mydomain.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications.

from Ie it asks me to install a certificate and its self assigned cert mydomain.x.local and not my wildcard on from godady.

Thanks

Exchange 2013 MB/CAS integration with legacy Exchange 2007 CAS/MB/Trans server

$

Hi All,

I have an existing running Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13 server acting as MB,CAS,Transport using a Barracuda SPAM for SMTP (MX Record is assigned to here), and a TMG2010 server performing all ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere, and OWA connectivity.

I have built a new Exchange 2013 SP1 server that will (for the meantime) act as a MB & CAS server only.

I successfully migrated a testuser mailbox to the new EX2013 server from the EX2007 server.  The problem is that once migrated, OWA and Outlook can't access the mailbox.

OWA form our URL gives the message: Outlook Web Access is currently unavailable. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: No Client Access servers of the appropriate version can be accessed from the Internet

If I run OWA from the EX2013 URL it works ok, but not for MBs on the EX2007 server.

I tested this configuration in a VM lab and it worked ok.  All I had to do was move the mailbox, then run Outlook.  Outlook automatically found the new server and opened the MB.

Basically what I need to do is move all our existing MBs from the old 2007 server to the new 2013 server.  I want to continue to use the exisiting transport/CAS/EDGE services on 2007 without having to rebuild both the internal and external comunications infrastructure at the present time.

How can I get the EX2013 server to act as the MB server for the EX2007 communications infrastructure?

Migration mailboxes from Exchange in Resource Forest to another Exchange in another resource forest

Hello... we have a customer that your infrastructure is:

Forest A: User Forest

Forest B: Resource forest. This forest have the user maiboxes in Exchange 2010, with linked mailbox to the users in the User Forest

The customer want to move (or migrate) the mailboxes to another Exchange 2010 in another Resource forest.

Is possible to migrate this mailbox from the actual Resource Forest to the new Resource forest? what is the better procedure to do this?

Thank you for your help.

Edge

I am trying to get an Edge server running in my Exchange 2010 org but I'm not having much luck.  I have temporarily set up the Edge server on my Intranet so that there is nothing but a switch between my Transport box and my Edge box.  No joy.

I have gone through the process of creating the EdgeSubscriptionInfo file and setting up the subscription on the transport box.  When I execute a "start-synchronization" on my transport box, I get an error stating "Unable to contact the EdgeSync service".  When I check the services on the box, I find that the service is not running.  But, if I try to start it, it starts and immediately stops with the message that some services do that.  No error, just an explanation.

I tried running the Exchange BPA but the results were a bit odd.  For example, it errors on the Edge box stating that RUS isn't configured and then give instructions for an earlier version of Exchange (2003, I think, but it may be 2007) on how to configure RUS.  Not much help.

I did have it running for a bit but I had another problem.  If an email was received that was using one of my non-primary domains, it was rejected as user unknown so I had to shut it down.  The address was legit (I have 5 domains that I receive email on and any one user can be registered on any or all of them) but it was still rejected.

So, what am I doing wrong?  Is there a document somewhere that can help me set this thing up?

Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Move volume with Exchange data from Disk 0 to Disk 1 within same virtual machine

$

Hi:

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual server running Exchange 2010.  Disk 0 has C: volume (Windows install) and D: volume (Exchange install).  Though Exchange is installed on D:, C: still contains C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\data

I need to increase size of C: volume.  I can easily add unallocated space to Disk 0 but Windows will not allow me to Extend C: to non-contiguous space.  I have read of 3rd party products that will extend C: in this case but am leary.

So, I figure best configuration is to create/add a Disk 1 from the virtual datastore, then move D: volume from Disk 0 to Disk 1.  How do I move D: volume with Exchange install?

Thank you!

Block Incoming Domains

$

Since all email from my domain should originate on my Exchange box, I would like to block all incoming email that has my domain in the sender's address.  Is this possible?  I know that I can block incoming email by domain but it wasn't clear if blocking my own domain would effect internal email or not.  A lot of spammers use the target domain in their address so I would like to block all of that garbage.

Thanks
