exchange remote setup

I have setup a new exchange server within our office and I would like to set up remote OWA also. I've been gettign conflicting information on how to do this. Internally I can access remote.mydomain.com without a problem. but externally it's not working, I get our companies website instead.

I assume I need to set up a dns record pointing to the exchange sever. We are a remote office and get our internet wirelessly from our ips.

i.e.

Internet --> wireless antenna ( ex ip 31.31.31.31/internal ip 192.168.1.1) --> internal router (ip 192.168.0.1) --> exchange server (ip 192.168.0.10)

So if I'm setting up DNS records do the point at the  antenna ex ip? and do I need to set up any addition port forwarding on the antenna & router?

Mailbox Size Exceeds Target Quota 2.3GB

Hey guys,

I am moving the final mailboxes from my SBS2003 over to my Exchange 2010 box.  I saved the large mailboxes and the BES users for last.  My question is about the large mailboxes.  I tried moving one of the larger mailboxes and it says, "Mailbox size 3.9GB exceeds target quota 2.3GB".

Any idea's on how I can remove the quota?  I have read that I can't do anything in the EMC but I can add -IgnoreRuleLimitErrors to the Move cmdlet in the Shell.  I have tried that but I keep getting error's so I am assuming I am not typing it out the correct way.  When I try to do Set-MoveRequest -Identity "Username" -IgnoreRuleLimitErrors $true, I get an error that there is no move request.  When I try to type the line into the MoveRequest line, it just doesn't like my parameters.

Any suggestions for getting past this?

Exchange 2010 add new email address space and additional smtp address to all recipients

HI

Our company is being bought and we need to change the email address for every recipient within the business group/user.

I have added the new domain to the Accepted Domains and have confirmed that if I manually change a users smtp address that mail flow works and the postmaster account receives email.

looking in the E-mail address policies section within the EMC we currently have 2 polices one for the current company policy call company.co.uk with a priority 1 and one called Default policy.

when I try to edit these I get a warning message which states that this policy was created with an earlier version of exchange I have looked on our exchange 2003 environment and have found the polices and can edit them.

Now my questions are

1. should I create the policy on the exchange 2003 environment or 2010

2. if I create a new policy on the exchange 2010 environment what will happen to the old addresses?

3. I must be able to preserve the old addresses and must make the new address space the primary address?

if anyone could help with the steps required or if there are any gotcha to avoid.

thanks

Howzit guys

i have a question that is baffling me.

I have a CAS array setup pointing to a F5 and all is good. my question is as follows: If i bring in another CAS/HUB server (combined role) and i export the cert from the current CAS/HUB server, do i import it in the MMC under Personal and then do i need to run through the certificate setup and setup my names and then complete the setup?

Please can you assist with this?

thanks

Cross forest mailbox permission pass-through

Hey guys,

I'm now working at a new customer. They got multiple domestic forests and one resource forest.

Let’s call them…

Dom1.domestic

Dom2.domestic

Dom3.domestic

Int.resource

By the way different domains have been migrated with the Quest Migration Manager and still are in sync. So in order to be prepared for a QMM resync we always have set the needed permissions in the domestic forests. So they could sync properly to int.resource and FullAccess and Send-As are working fine.

This works for dom1.domestic and dom2.domestic because they got an own dedicated Exchange 2003 environment and so we are able to set the needed permissions in the EX2003 tabs in the AD objects even for shared mailboxes if they are created in the domestic domain.

But for dom3.domestic it works not, because it got no Exchange environment. So in this case you create a shared mailbox in int.resource and grant FullAccess permission via powershell for the account in dom3.domestic.

Although this is the way Microsoft intended it to work, unfortunately it does not. So I think that the granted permissions will not pass-through to the domestic domain.

Have you got any idea where I could start searching?

Kind regards,

Chris

Inter-domain Migration of mailboxes and users

Hi Experts,

I am planning to migrate email accounts and mailboxes of my users that are in exampledomain.lcl to exampledomain.com.

The email accounts and mailboxes are primarily on exampledomain.lcl.

I have made a new VM and made a new AD forest with example.com domain where I have to move all email accounts and mailboxes, in such a way that email accounts with .lcl should be moved to .com domain, the users should get email from their .com domain email address. with that their mailboxes also should be moved to .com domain.

I am trying to figure out where to start and what could be the steps for migration.

Any guides, step by step tutorials or technet article references are highly appreciated.

Thank You......

I am beginning to move users between mailbox servers and I know there are some thresholds that you need to change.  If you don't I think it bombs on the move because of too many items or items that are too large.  Is there a document or does anyone have a standard practice with the commands I need to run to relax those settings?  The only other time I moved anyone, I used an ex employee's mailbox and just kept retrying it looking for errors until I had all the thresholds changed.  That was at another job though.  Thanks for any help you can give!

IBM lotus notes to Exchange Migration

We are currently migrating lotus notes databases to exchange 2007 using the MS Lotus Transporter tool.

After the emails are finished migrating from lotus to exchange 2007 and it completes with no errors or warnings, is there a way to fully know if it transfered all the messages.

There is a few times that people advised me after we moves the email from lotus to exchange they were missing messages so I would migrate the mail a second time using the transporter tool and it was fine after that.

I need to know that it is copying all the messages over from lotus to exchange and was wondering the best way to know if it was truly 100% successful.

Errors Decommissioning Exchange 2007 Server

We are attempting to decommission an Exchange 2007 Server (single server). We have already gotten 2010 set up, installed, mailboxes moved and public folders moved. We went through and removed the replicas on the old server as well as removing the mailbox database and public folder database.

From this point we are attempting to Uninstall Exchange 2007 using either the Wizard or through cmd using setup.com /mode:uninstall after navigating to the Bin folder in the Exchange server. Each time however, we get the same error regardless of how we are doing it.

We uncheck all roles, hit Next, and it fails during the Readiness Check within 10 seconds on each role (Mailbox, Client Access, Hub Transport) each time saying: 'An error occurred while running the test. The Computer may be out of Memory, or the XML files have been modified. Parameter name: ConfigurationFileLocation'

I've gone through using ADSI Edit and removed the server from the Configuration>Services>SiteDomain>Administrative Groups>Exchange Administrative Groups>Serversand it was none existent in the Databases section.

Even after all of these steps I'm still getting the error about the memory or XML file issue. Is there a way to replace the XML files with 'clean' ones or a way to repair the existing ones? I'm just simply wanting to uninstall it at this point.

Thanks!

"changes to the public group membership cannot be saved" error from Outlook 2010 users, but no problem with Outlook 2003.

Hello,

I was wondering how many servers could we patch 'rollup' at the same time on Exchange 2007 SP3? Would it be possible to do all passive cluster node together or in 2 times? (I have about 20 servers).

And how many time I should estimate the update.

Orphaned .ost file

Anyway to recover an ost file when the original server is gone and the computer with the "orphaned" ost is now joined to a new domain?  Original server was W2K3 SP2 w/ E2K3 SP2.

My thoughts are to setup another "mock" server identical to the original server, rejoin this computer to the old domain and then try to deal with the security mismatch of the ost to the server?

There is enough information to rebuild the server exactly as it was before (including passwords).

Ideas?

Thank You,

Joe

upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3 stops and fails with Performance Counter

We are upgrading from Exchange 2007 SP2 to SP3.

Exchange Server is on Windows 2008 Enterprise 64 bit OS -SP2

DC is on windows 2008 Enterprise 32 bit OS - SP2

When we run Exchange SP3 setup.exe GUI, it runs through the pre-requisites completely and then starts to configure the Hub Transport services but @ exactly 55% it throws an error window "Exchange Server Setup encountered an error"

On repeating this process i noticed it throws the same error at 55% while "Performance COunter Configuring". Please find below the entries of exchangesetup.log

Appreciate if someone can help us move forward in this scenario.
We have

1. disabled anti virus and tried.
2. removed watermarks and action entries in the registry
3. tried almost everything mentioned on google but i am not able to move forward.
Please help. we need this as part of our migration to Exchange 2013 for co-existence.
Thank you.
Philip

What are the comfy attributes (I don’t know), which makes MS Outlook first choice of user’s than Lotus Notes. It is right; correct me if I’m wrong.

Public folders stuck in Mail queue when replicating to Exchange 2010

This last weekend I installed Exchange 2010. Moved everyone over the same night to the new server. Mail flows in and out in ex 2010. The problem is I can't get the Public folders to replicate across. At the same time I found I can't send mail between the two exchange servers. In the message Queue on the Ex 2007 box I see the public folders are just sitting there waiting to be sent but stuck. Along with my test emails.

I found an artical that talks about going into ADSIEdit and delete the old exchange 2003 empty server folder. Did that and email is still not flowing.

Servers are in the same AD same subnet. ex 2007 is installed on a 2003 box. ex 2010 is on 2008r2.

Thanks,

Steve
