Only permissions to Anonymous in the Default receive connector

$

Hello,

I was wondering if I can set up the default receive connector to receive only from Anonymous, unticking the other permissions in the tab "Permissions".

Also, if this connector is only used to receive emails from the internet, could I untick all the options in the "Authentication" tab of this default receive connector?.

Thanks in advance.

Update Rollup 9 for Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Question

I'm looking for some clarification about installing Rollup 9 for Exchange 2010 SP3. In kb3030085, it mentions:

"Before you install this update, you must remove all interim updates for Exchange Server 2010 SP3"

The link provided takes you to a kb article about uninstalling are interim updates before installing Exchange Server 2010 SP2. Our 2010 environment is currently at Exchange 2010 SP3 UR7. What exactly should I be removing?

Exchange 2003 to 2010 public folder migration

Hi!

My public folders will not for some reason migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
All e-mail is migrated without problems and located on Exchange 2010 server...

I have followed the migration guide, but nothing happens. Nothing to see on eventviewer on Exchange 2003 or 2010 server. Where should I look else ?

If I use ExFolders program (ExFolders for Exchange 2010) I can't see any Replicas under "Replica".
Also in "Exchange System Manager" on Exchange 2003 server under "Tools / Monitoring and Status / Status" Exchange 2010 server is listed as "Unreachable".

Any help wil be appreciated !

Thx in advance,

:-) Jens

Rollup Update install error - error code 2771

When trying to install the rollup update 7 on a hub/cas server, I get the following error almost immediately:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package,.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2771."
I get the same thing when installing from a downloaded install (that I've used on other servers) or via windows update.

I also get two errors in the event log:
1. MSIinstaller - event id 10005 - same as above but adds "The arguments are: AdminTools" at the end.
2. MSIinstaller - event id 1023 - "... could not be installed.   Error code 1603.  Additional info is available..."  (no add'l info is in the log file referenced)

I had a similar, if not exact, problem trying to install rollup update 6 and couldn't find any info then...  or now.   Saw one post about disabling symantec endpoint protection (which we don't use) but I tried closing our trend a/v but no diff.

Oh yeah, the server is Win2k3 R2 x64 SP2.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Frank

Exchange 2003 & 2010 Coexistence Period (Change NameSpace)

Hello,

I have question on changing the namespace.

Currently my organisation is on Exchange 2003 and planning to move on to Exchange 2010. We use the external namespace is OWA.companyname.co.in and want it to change to mail.companyname.com when implementing exchange 2010. Is this possible??

If yes I can change the namespace when installing the 1st CAS, Do I need to rename the existing namespace on Exchange 2003 to legacy.company.co.in or it does not matter should I leave it as it is ???

My concern is simple I want to change the namespace from owa.companyname.co.in to mail.company.com. Please help me on my concern with your valuable inputs in the details.

Thanks

Prashant

The dreaded underscore in the NETBIOS name only

Hello,

A customer wants to transition from Exchange 2003 to 2010, but they have an underscore in their NETBIOS domain name. Thankfully, it is not in their DNS name. Could this present any issues even if DNS is OK? The article http://support.microsoft.com/?id=909264 doesn't mention it as a problem for NETBIOS, only DNS.

Thanks

Exchange 2007 uninstall hanged and was killed

Hello everybody,

Yesterday I started to uninstall my exchange 2007 server after I had just migrated to exchange 2013.

When I got back this morning, I saw the uninstaller was hanging at "Removing exchange files .............................. 100%"

Therefore I killed the process, and found out that I could not start the uninstaller again.

Only after this I realised that this was a known issue and that I should have killed the powershell process and not the setup process.

My question now is whether it is a problem the setup did not entirely complete, and if it is, how to fix the problem, or that I should just go ahead and remove the server from my domain.

I can tell that there are still some files left in the exchange server folder, but my main concern is that there might be some records left in active directory which may disrupt my new exchange server.

Thanks in advance,

Olivier Smet

Intra-forest Active Directory & Exchange migration

Hello,

We are in the process of Active Directory Intra-forest consolidation and need some help. Here is the scenario.

We have Single AD forest Multiple domain design (1 parent domain & 3 Child domain). We want to consolidate all child domain to parent domain. We also have exchange in our environment. Majority of the exchange servers are in Parent domain, but have some exchange mailbox servers installed in 2 child domains. I know how to do a normal Intra-forest user and Computer migration. But  after migration, when we join the exchange mailbox servers from child to parent domain, will it cause any problem? Or is that not the right way to do?

Can somebody give me the process how to migrate in this scenario? Remember, i need to migrate users, computers and mailbox (exchange servers) to parent domain and decommission all child domains. Mail id-s will not change. All users already have Someone@parentdomain.com address.

Some help please...

Can MS Transporter mailbox migration tool be used as a standalone tool??

Hi,

I am currently trying to migrate Lotus Notes 7 .nsf files into a newly installed Exchange 2007 (on server 2008) environment. I do not require a co-existing environment, I just would like to migrate the .nsf mailbox archive files into exchange.

My question is; is it possible to just use the mailbox migration tool that comes with the transporter suite as a standalone tool in order to import the files into Exchange?

I have attempted this already and keep getting the below error:

Error:
The database 'C:\Users\administrator.domainname\Desktop\username.nsf' could not be opened on server 'Local'.  The Notes API returned the following error: Could not open the ID file

Also, I'm afraid I know VERY little about Notes, which may be quite obvious. Any pointers would be appreciated!

BTW, my new environment consists of a 2008 DC, an Exchange 2007 server, and a couple more member servers. All newly installed...

Understanding X.400

I need to implement an Exchange 2003 lab in Windows 2003 domains with the following objectives.

1. Familiarise myself with X.400
2. Connect two separate Exchange Organizations using X.400 Connectors
3. Upgrade one organisation to Exchange 2010 and Windows 2008 R2 whilst retaining the ability to communicate with the other organization using X.400.

I haven't had any experience with X.400 and have mainly worked on Exchange 2007 systems but have somehow found myself working for a company that still relies on  Exchange 2003 and X.400 to transfer email between its organizations.

I have been tasked with an IT refresh for one organization to upgrade the existing 2003 domain as well as the Exchange 2003 organization.  Since Exchange 2007 onwards does not support X.400 and Exchange 2003 is apparently not supported on a Windows 2008 R2 Domain, I desparately need to find a workaround without the additional cost of third party plug-ins.

Firstly, I need to understand X.400.

-I have setup a lab with two connected subnets with a Windows 2003 domain configured on each subnet.  Single DC hosting the GC and all the FSMO roles.
-I have installed the first Exchange 2003 server in each domain.  All the default settings applied - i.e. First Organization etc.
-I have created test accounts and mailboxes.  Each user has a default X.400 address.
-I have created the X.400 transport stack  (I think this is the correct terminology!)
-I have created the X.400 connector.  I have configured the address space, stack and general settings (remote server etc) however I have no idea if I have done this correctly.  Maybe you can advise what the minimum required settings are!

I created a contact in the first domain for a recipient in the second domain, but when I send the email using an outlook client, I get an NDR saying the recipient does not exist on the other domain. Is there something I'm missing?  I'm not convinced I have done everything required to make the connection or if I have created the contacts X.400 address properly.

I can't seem to find much online.  Is there a simple step-by-step guide on how to configure this? If anyone can help me establish X.400 connectivity between the two systems in the first instance, it would be appreciated.  Then I can attempt the upgrades!

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Mailbox Size Exceeds Target Quota 2.3GB

Hey guys,

I am moving the final mailboxes from my SBS2003 over to my Exchange 2010 box.  I saved the large mailboxes and the BES users for last.  My question is about the large mailboxes.  I tried moving one of the larger mailboxes and it says, "Mailbox size 3.9GB exceeds target quota 2.3GB".

Any idea's on how I can remove the quota?  I have read that I can't do anything in the EMC but I can add -IgnoreRuleLimitErrors to the Move cmdlet in the Shell.  I have tried that but I keep getting error's so I am assuming I am not typing it out the correct way.  When I try to do Set-MoveRequest -Identity "Username" -IgnoreRuleLimitErrors $true, I get an error that there is no move request.  When I try to type the line into the MoveRequest line, it just doesn't like my parameters.

Any suggestions for getting past this?

Exchange 2010 - Domain choice for OWA login? Or alternative strategy?

I am working with Exchange 2010 currently and am wondering how having a domain/sub-domain logon choice being presented on the logon page can be achieved.
Is there anything configurable that exists already within Exchange to enable such a feature? An admin had something on the logon.aspx page but it appears to get wiped out/overwritten by Exchange 2010 periodically and am not sure how.

Basically there is a domain, domain.com, and a sub-domain, sub.domain.com, within the same Forest.
Exchange 2010 serves user/mailboxes in both domains.
When a user logs into the Outlook Web Access, we'd prefer them not have to manually type their domain each time (like domain\username, or sub-domain\username), but instead be easily able to login.

From what I understand the logon.aspx page or related files may need to be customized here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\Owa\auth

There are some duplicate usernames between the parent domain and child domain, so we can't have it just be the username because if it's "JSmith" and there's a "JSmith" in both domains, then it won't work.
So if they could have a radio button, or a drop-down menu, that lists "domain" or "sub-domain" which would prepend or append to the username box accordingly, I think that would be ideal.
Unless there's another way?

new-mailbox and the -linkedcredential Parameter

Greetings:

I've been trying to create linked mailboxes using Powershell. I've got Exchange 2007 Beta 2 deployed in a 2nd forest, with a one-way forest trust to another forest I'm using as the account source.

The command I'm using is a follows:

New-Mailbox -Name:'Test User' -Alias:'Test.User' -OrganizationalUnit:'domain.tld/Placeholder Accounts' -Database:'CN=Mailbox Database,CN=First Storage Group,CN=InformationStore,CN=DFE2K7MB,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=org_name,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=tld' -UserPrincipalName:'test.user@domain.tld' -SamAccountName:'test.user' -FirstName:'Test' -Initials:'' -LastName:'User' -LinkedMasterAccount:'Test User' -LinkedDomainController:'DC1.accountdomain.tld' -LinkedCredential:'accountdomain\adminaccount'

It doesn't like whatever I provide it for the LinkedCredential parameter, though; I get the following returned:

New-Mailbox : Cannot bind parameter 'LinkedCredential'. Cannot convert value "accountdomain\adminaccount" to type "System.Management.Automation.MshCredential". Error:
"Invalid cast from 'System.String' to 'System.Management.Automation.MshCredent
ial'."

I gather from this that I can't provide the credentials as a string, but I have no idea where to go from here. Can anyone help me out? Just how do you use the LinkedCredentials parameter?

Thanks,

Andy Schan

How to check hard coded dependencies on the DCs for Exchange server 2003?

Hi, I am from Messaging Team and server team in a process of Decommissioning  2003 Domain Controllers in legacy domain, as a part of that they have taken LDAP traces of the legacy DCs,

And they have found that the some legacy Exchange servers 2003 are hitting these legacy DCs for Authentication.

Please let me know how can I check if there is any hard coded dependencies on the DCs, The dependencies need to be replaced with new DCs?
